In Class: Sarah Haskins
In the video, her controling idea is that guys should try different tactics to get hott chicks than to get regular women. she uses comercials that support this claim, and goes further into detail how hott chicks like: smells, burgers, and cable. overall, it was a good example of an arguement, with support, and a fairly good idea.

In Class: Free Write - Topics
i wish i didnt sign up for early classes everyday but friday...fridays are awesome.
i wish there wasnt so many stupid people.
i wish that there was better options for the free food at market square, and that 1873 was cheaper.
i feel like we can get more benifits from a school that we pay so much to go to
i wish there wasnt so much control on underage drinking, even though it is illegal.
i wish fraternity stuff wasnt so last-minute.
i wish i got good parking everyday
i fight about roomate being whipped hardcore by a girl, who has a boyfriend, that could possibley be just using him. shes making things confusing and pulling him away from his friends in and out of his fraternity
i fight about
Stupid People - its something everyone close to me knows about me, i could be considered just impatient, but thats just what my mom tells me. everyday i never seem to get surprised by the geniuses of the world driving like idiots, or acting like theyre just now hitting puberty. people that park terrible, and dont know how to read signs that are right in front of them. people who think they are above all, yet cant do anything right. having worked with the public for several years, a lot come to my mind about stupid people
People will probably think im too judgemental on the intelligence of the public, but some will also agree with me. i will do some research on this, because i think it could be a good, probably funny paper. the people who dont agree with me are the extremely nice people, which isnt bad. i hope that the paper doesnt seem harsh in any way, just expressing my point of view on the subject.

Rhetorical Response 4
Thunder from the right on gun ruling is an argument essay discussing the opinions on gun control laws in the united states from several conservative court justices. Antonin Scalia is the main creator of these discussions in the case, all explaining his point of view on the subject, which is not supporting heavy restrictions on the ownership of firearms.
i see this example as being a good representation of a argument essay, yet the material in it did seem to not flow good, and i know i got lost a few times and found myself re-reading sections. it does include the opinions of different sides by not trying to win the readers opinion, and supports each with fairly strong evidence

In Class:free write + Man in the Irony Mask
getting up at seven on a tuesday is so awesome. i could be sleeping right now, my roomate is. this will definitley be something i change for semesters in the future. the man in the irony mask was sorta an interesting profile over Stephen Colbert. it makes it easier when you know the person who is being profiled. i learned a lot of information about stephen colbert, it was somewhat an eye opener about the guy who show i watched all last year.

Rhetorical Response: Home Girl
Now that ive read home girl, i thought it was a good profile work. the writer went into very much detail about Badu and her life, in a day, and over the years. it was informative and catchy, which is what you want. the introduction let the reader know who Badu is and, opened up the rest of the essay. i learned how even though shes a r&b/soul music star, she still stays down to earth and wants to help in the community where she grew up. she has four assistants who help her everyday and even with the help she still seems busy.
culture is also a huge thing to Badu. she is very spiritual and follows her religion strongly. she considers much of what happens in her life related to her religious and family background. her heritage is what keeps her in dallas as oppose to leaving town like other celebrities. its attributes like this that Badu has that i would hope to find in many more of the celebrities today.

In Class: Image
I think the image of king kong is the coolest of the images. i feel like laughing when i see it because it is so old and cheesy looking. i think its more interesting to look at than the others not only because it has more information on, but also because it grabs me attention more. i feel that if i saw this image when king kong first came out in 1933, that i would want to go see it. i would feel that it was the next best thing in the entertainment world. the graphics on the image are well done and keep me asking questions and wanting to know when and what happens.
Theres a giant monkey, a pretty blond, a dinosaur, civilians, and a city. seeing this for the first time i would be curious, i would want to know more, know what exactly this image was talking about. seeing the words king kong, would make me wonder who or what is king kong. overall there seems to be a great plot somewhere, its not visible through just the image, but theres more to it, the image is deeper and pulls you in to find out more about it. right now the images shows me sort of the history of king kong, it being the first poster for the first film version, and it impresses me how its has changed yet not changed at all over the years. having seen the most recent film of king kong, and understanding the story really brings out a lot for me from the image.
The majority of the color was a combination of light/dark green and yellow. these colors brought excitement and curiousity to me. made me wonder yet have a sense of suspense and action. the bottom right corner has a circular picture with people with scared expresions pointing towards king kong, the background is red, which lets me know its scary or intense emotion its bringing out, sort of a foreshadowing of events.
The first image to grab me is the giant monkey with the blonde in his hand. i see it first and notice the vintage feeling it brings with it. next comes the enlarged text of the words KING KONG let me feel the intensity of the image. next i see the dinosaur and king kong fighting, which portrays some of the scenes within the film. then the setting the in the city lets me know where action takes place.
this image trys to make me feel the excitement and story plot of the film. knowing its history and poularity, i know that its a great work.

In Class: 10-6
For once i feel prepared for class, i dont know what got into me, but i like it. i have been taking care of a lot of work during the study hours the fraternity has us do per week. i still need to work on time management a little so i can get more sleep, but for the most part i feel a real improvement toward being ready for college. for the first time all year i was able to get breakfast before this class, which was amazing. its a great feeling.
As for my paper, i feel it is pretty solid, of course its not the 1600-2000 word length, but i just cant make myself write that much about a topic yet. i took care of all my sources last night, and found a couple really good ones that i'll use tonight to polish up my paper. im really glad we have two revised essays then the final draft due, so i procrastinate on the less important one, and it makes it easier to make a more complete essay.

Rhetorical Response 2
The two research essays, We Proudly Brew Starbucks Coffee and Tatoo Crazy, are two solid examples of well done papers. Tatoo Crazy was about the transition of negative stereotyping of tatoos with gangs, or prison, or bikers, to more of a way for people to tell something about themselves and their lives. It explained how tatoos are now become more and more popular as time goes on, and explains, in detail, the statistics that support these facts. On the other hand, We Proudly brew Starbucks Coffee, taught the reader about the negative aspects of the Starbucks Coffee corporation and how it has a worse and worse impact on the lives of many in other countrys that make the products for starbucks. from being the addicting day-making trip to the corruptive, monopolistic company that may have too much power and control throughout more than just Amercia.

In Class: Questions/thoughts on Essay 1
I get to write my first very long essay this weekend, very excited. i dont know if ive ever written one to that length. so itll be a fun experience. i hope my topic is a good one, i know that its a good idea, i just got to make it a good narrative. but i dont think it will be too hard of a task to write it, i should have free time and i enjoy typing on my laptop. i might consider changing my topic to maybe one i can write better about. i dont know. it will be a fun thing to do over my break.

Response to "The Biography of Blake Stone"
First thing that comes to my mind when i read "the biography of blake stone" was the song Online, by Brad Paisley. it fits it perfectly, maybe on a smaller scale, but the exact same idea. Krattz narrates this story really good, i know that i was sold through the first few paragraph that blake stone was actually a real person, and most likely the narrator. i felt like that when kraatz explained how he met his close acquaintances online, he would pretty much practice for the conversations the prior week. he detailed the story very well, and expressed much like i would expect a fifth grader to act. i also liked how he seemed to grow up after the, i think, six months of the make believe identity. if you havent heard the song by brad paisley, check it out, funny stuff.

car mechanics has grown into through out the years. technically since my mom remairried 10 years ago. my step-dad has always raced, and had show cars, and done all of the aftermarket work to the vehicles. growing up, i used to help him with such things as comon maitenance on cars we had, learning to change the oil in a car like a toyota camry (my moms) to the same work on a 1967 mustang fastback. having a varietty of tools and a garage with more square-footage than our house impacted it a lot too. i soon had my first dirtbike and did everything to it either on my own or with my step-dad. anything from new tires, new exhaust, to carb-jet cleaning, was becoming more and more simple and understood. after the bikes came my first truck, which we decided to make into a project truck, befor i could drive we repainted it entirely ourselves and my uncles help, and along with many other upgrade is turning into a great vehicle. i like the fact that i have this knowledge and i think it has been very useful.

In Class: first post
Ballenger explains in his book about writing as inquiry, which was an explanation of how to sort of "loosen up" with your writing. i took this into consideration, beacause for the most part i do get short with my writing. writing as inquiry brings a new perspective to me about being more open and letting myself just write and not care about what im writing, its a different thought process. sorta like this freewriting were doing now. i like the writing as inquiry idea and think it could help me. i could maybe have understood more, but it was getting tough to read 30 pages or such. i tend to side track myself. i ttoook a break from reading this to go eat last night with spme freidns, at joe t's. very good food. the writing as an inquiry is more than just writing to write, i think it could be much deeper than that. and im sure we'll find out in class. and we still have 2 mins...thsi class is sooo early, my roomates sleeping still, no fun. i have chemistry after this, also an exciting time. writing as inquiry is cool.

1st post
Hey, my names Ari. I'm a freshman this year at TCU from Rockwall, TX. I'm majoring in mechanical engineering. So far I'm loving TCU, my roommates a cool guy, and my schedule isn't too hectic. TCU has always been my ideal college to attend, and I like the location and atmosphere of the campus. Also everyone, students and faculty are very friendly. I love to have a good sense of humor, being a car enthusiast, and doing anything fun.
This course is one that is required for my major, but I do plan on becoming a more experienced and more productive writer by the end of this class. The writing that I do on a daily basis is normally just short messages to friends via email, facebook, text, etc.. Because I lack in long length writing, I feel like I should be much better at it after taking this class.
I did read the course syllabus, and I understand and agree to the terms.
